GPS-Derived Slant Water Vapor for Cloud Monitoring in Singapore

چکیده

This paper presents a GPS-derived slant water vapor technique for cloud monitoring in Singapore. The normalized wet delay (SWD) and (SWV) are introduced. suitability of the SWV over is demonstrated, as it not very sensitive to satellite elevation angle. For better illustration representation spatial distribution SWV, skyplot discretized into different cells based on azimuth angles produce plot. plots analyzed compared alongside sky images. results show that generally consistent with formation observed images, hence demonstrating their usefulness monitoring. probability associated cloudy clear conditions also analyzed, which shows mean values former higher. Finally, time series explored relation solar irradiance. It shown ratio measured

*It is very important to accurately characterize the three-dimensional distribution of water vapor in the atmosphere for the understanding and prediction of mesoscale and storm-scale weather, especially with regard to quantitative precipitation forecasting (Emanuel et al. 1995). Skills in these predictions have been improved rather slowly owing to the high spatial and temporal variability of wa...

The Westford Water Vapor Experiment: Use of GPS to Determine Total Precipitable Water Vapor

The Westford WAter Vapor Experiment (WWAVE) was designed to measure the temporal and spatial variability of the total precipitable water vapor over an area within a 25 km radius of the Haystack Observatory in Westford, MA. The main experiment was conducted from August 15 to August 30, 1995, and a variety of different techniques were used to measure the water vapor, including: radiosondes, launc...

Measurements of Precipitable Water Vapor by GPS, Radiosondes, and a Microwave Water Vapor Radiometer

Results from the Westford WAter Vapor Experiment (WWAVE) will be discussed. This experiment was designed to measure the temporal and spatial variability of the total precipitable water vapor (PWV) over an area of roughly 25 km radius around the Haystack Observatory in Westford, MA. The main experiment was conducted from August 15 to August 30, 1995, and a variety of techniques were used to meas...

Global monitoring of tropospheric water vapor with GPS radio occultation aboard CHAMP

The paper deals with application of GPS radio occultation (RO) measurements aboard CHAMP for the retrieval of tropospheric water vapor profiles. The GPS RO technique provides a powerful tool for atmospheric sounding which requires no calibration, is not affected by clouds, aerosols or precipitation, and provides an almost uniform global coverage. We briefly overview data processing and retrieva...

A Comparison of Water Vapor Derived from GPS Occultations and Global Weather Analyses

Despite its fundamental importance in radiative transfer, atmospheric dynamics and the hydrological cycle, atmospheric water is inadequately characterized particularly at a global scale. Occultation measurements from the Global Positioning System (GPS) should imporve upon thids situation. Individual occultations yield profiles of specific humidity accurate to -0.2 gkg providing sensitive measur...
